Despite progress made and interventions implemented in the fight against HIV/AIDS, People Living with HIV (PLHIV) continue to encounter challenges accessing Antiretroviral Treatment (ART). Through its SHINDA Project, CHS is providing targeted community-based health services through Community ART Groups (CAG) to address existing treatment access barriers, improve quality of care, ensure increased retention in care and encourage sustained adherence to ART thereby improving sustained viral suppression.
1 Communities and community-based services greatly contribute to overcoming HIV service-related barriers by: linking services; bringing them closer to home; integrating them to reduce loss to follow-up; expanding the work force to cope with increasing demand and greater numbers of people eligible for antiretroviral therapy; reaching out to those hardest to reach and engaging them to remain in prevention, care and treatment.
