On October 27, the CHS leadership and technical team paid a courtesy call to the Siaya County Government through the office of Deputy Governor H.E William Oduol to share an overview of the achievements and plans of the CHS Shinda Tena project.
Speaking at the meeting, H.E William Odoul applauded the CHS team and the County Health Management Team (CHMT) for the successful collaboration and gains realized in reducing the HIV prevalence in Siaya County. “I recognize the effort and immense impact that CHS has had on health service delivery in Siaya County; we assure you of our commitment and continued support,” he said.
CHS has supported the implementation and expansion of high-quality HIV prevention, treatment and care services in Siaya County since October 2016 through its Shinda project (2016 -2021) and the follow on Shinda Tena (2021 – 2025).
“Our work in Siaya county has been premised on ensuring that we deliver quality HIV services to all by focusing on health system strengthening initiatives and working with the CHMT to ensure efficient implementation of evidence-based solutions,” said Dr. Richard Ayah, the CHS Board Chairman.
With support from the United States President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), CHS has invested over KSh. 2.8 billion in the county with remarkable outcomes as highlighted below:
Key Achievements Implementing Siaya County
- Over 2.1 million HIV tests done
- 41,425 people started on life-saving antiretroviral therapy (ART)
- Provided Voluntary male Medical Circumcision services to 151,256 men
- Through our Determined Resilient Empowered AIDS Free Mentored and Safe (DREAMS) Program, we have reached 19,968 Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW)
- Provided education subsidy, vocational training subsidy, and business start-up support to 7,108 AGYWs
