Abstract
Background
Intimate partner violence (IPV) has adverse implications for maternal and child health. This study investigated the association between IPV and child mortality across East African countries.
Methods
Demographic Health Survey data from multiple East African countries were pooled. IPV exposure was categorized, and mortality outcomes (neonatal, infant, and child) were analyzed using logistic regression.
Results
Exposure to IPV was significantly associated with increased odds of all forms of child mortality. The risk was higher for emotional and physical violence exposure.
Conclusion
Reducing IPV can contribute to improving child survival in East Africa. Interventions must integrate IPV screening within maternal and child health services.
