Yesterday, CHS staff under the leadership of the Staff Welfare chairman, Duncan Barkebo, reached out to members of the Sosoma Wells community in Ngomeni, Kitui County. This is one of the areas which was hardest hit by the recent drought situation in the country. The communities problems have also been heightened by the communal clashes between them and the communities from the neighbouring Tana River County.
Under the leadership of the CHS Staff Welfare Committee, this community which lies to the North-East of Kitui County, benefitted from a one-day medical camp held at the Africa Inland Church (AIC) Sosoma, where basic foodstuffs were also distributed to the families. CHS staff from all our geographical areas of operation contributed financially to this activity, which made it possible to purchase the medical and nutritional supplies for the community.
Over 300 families received nutritional commodities which will serve them for the next one to three weeks, depending on the size of their families. Children, youth and the old also attended the medical camp where they were treated by CHS staff and healthcare workers from the CHS-supported Ukasi Model Health Centre. HIV Testing Services were also offered on site.
