Abstract
Background
Poor ART adherence contributes to viral non-suppression in children and adolescents. This study assessed the feasibility of video directly observed therapy (VDOT) using smartphones.
Methods
Participants were unsuppressed HIV-positive children and adolescents aged 10–19 years. They used smartphones to record daily ART ingestion videos, reviewed asynchronously by healthcare workers.
Results
VDOT was feasible and acceptable. Over 80% adherence was recorded among participants, and significant improvement in viral suppression was noted at 3-month follow-up.
Conclusion
Asynchronous smartphone-enabled VDOT is a promising approach to enhance adherence and viral suppression in youth living with HIV.
