Together with our partner Centers for Disease and Prevention Kenya (CDC), we witnessed the signing of the document “Roadmap to Sustainable TB/HIV in Siaya County.” The roadmap is a pivotal county-led document that defines a framework for action towards sustaining HIV/TB impact.
A County Transition Team (CTT), which included the Siaya County Government, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Kenya (CDC), CHS-Kenya, and other Implementing Partners, worked hand in hand to develop this key roadmap that seeks to sustain the gains made in the county.
According to Siaya County Governor James Orengo, the county has allocated 30% of its budget to health. However, this is not enough.
“I urge all partners to support the Department of Health in implementing this roadmap in this journey towards self-reliance and the ultimate realization of access to universal health services for the people of Siaya County.” H.E. James Orengo.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have been present in Siaya for 40 years and have supported HIV programs for the last 20 years.
“HIV programming started as an emergency model; it is time to move to a leaner model that is efficient and sustainable.” Dr. Jennifer Galbraith, CDC DG HT
The development of this roadmap is aligned with PEPFAR’s Strategic Pillar 2, focused on Sustaining the Response, through a three-pronged political, programmatic, and financial agenda. The same ideals and principles of PEPFAR—impact, sustained participation, accountability and openness, equity, and respect and humility—also served as a guide for it.
