WORLD AIDS DAY COMMEMORATIONS 2017 by Centre for Health Solutions – Kenya on EXPOSURE

On December 1, 2017 CHS joined the world in commemorating World AIDS Day. The event was marked all over the country, with counties conducting commemoration events under the theme ‘Step up for HIV Prevention: Youth Na Plan’ aimed at raising awareness on the different ways of preventing HIV with emphasis on access to HIV prevention services among the youth.

Through the generous support of United States President’s Emergency Program for AIDS Relief (PEFPAR) through the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) CHS supported commemorations across eight (8) counties (Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Murang’a, Siaya, Makueni, Kitui and Machakos) where CHS is working hand-in-hand with respective County governments to deliver HIV care and treatment services through the NAISHI, TEGEMEZA PLUS and SHINDA, projects. CHS support in marking World AIDS Day 2017 included information, educational and communication (IEC) materials such as banners, t-shirts and printed HIV and TB literature as well as logistical support during the activities.

being observed among the youthful population globally. Recent reports indicate that young people (aged between 15 to 24 years) contributed to over 50% of new HIV infections in 2015,” He further reaffirmed CHS’s commitment towards HIV control activities in the counties it supports.

HIV AND TB TESTING FOR ALL

Health professionals, partners in health, politicians, students and community members gathered to mark the important event with free HIV testing, counselling and TB screening services offered to over 500 people.

Working in close and cordial collaboration with the County Departments of Health in these counties, CHS focuses on the implementation of high quality HIV prevention, care and treatment services through support for care and treatment of HIV, TB/ HIV services, Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission (PMTCT), Provider Initiated Testing and Counselling (PITC) and community linkages offered across 423 CHS supported facilities in Central, Western and Eastern Kenya.
