On July 6, 2023, Centre for Health Solutions – Kenya (CHS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the County Government of Siaya on provision of high quality health care services in the County.
According to Siaya County governor, James Orengo, the county is very happy with the work that CHS has been doing in the health sector.
“The county has limited capacity in the specialised areas of HIV and TB, and appreciate the technical and financial assistance from CHS with funding from PEPFAR, CDC Kenya and USAID,” Orengo said.
CHS Director of Finance and Administration, George Odondi shared that CHS has worked closely with the County Government of Siaya for the last 7 years, and the MoU will ensure a more collaborative approach to improved health in Siaya county.
“The organisation is now focusing more on prevention even as we move towards epidemic control. We are now working more in the community to prevent infection among vulnerable groups such as adolescent girls and young women,” George said.
In 2021, CHS was awarded a five-year grant (Shinda Tena) funded by The U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR through CDC Kenya to implement and expand HIV prevention and treatment programmes in collaboration with Siaya County. This was upon the successful completion of a similar grant.
Additionally, CHS in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, the National TB Program are implementing a national-level mechanism (Tuberculosis Accelerated Response and Care II) funded by USAID Kenya to reduce TB burden in Kenya; Siaya County included by accelerating disease surveillance and coordination efforts in the County.
